Mora's Muda Quick Racing
Quick Sand
By Dick Van Bramer

A lot of adventures came out of the season opener at Berm Benders Mora. Bikes were dropping to the fender in some areas, if the rider was not careful. I heard a lot of grumbling, but it was with pride, not resentment in their voices. At the rider meeting Barb Scott announced that all seven women racers were up to challenge. That is of the Mighty Mora Mud! A few racers chose to leave, but the allure of Berm Benders kept 300 plus racers who were up too the challenge. I was anxious to see how the Micro Minis would do. If not careful, the track would swallow them whole. Then, Barb announced the little bikes would start last. The 65cc riders cheered when they were told that they were riding the whole track. One of the first racers to finish a moto was Jenna Fore.

Dick: Hi there. I am doing race results for the Cycle USA, do you mind answering some questions?

Jenna: Sure! This is sort of my first podium. Not too long I hope, because I am soaked.

Dick: I guess you are. I thought you were clean from being first.

Jenna: That too. But I lost it and fell in a big puddle.

Dick: Ooh Doggy! My hats of to you for just riding today. In some places the mud looks like it would give them mud dragsters a time. Dare I ask how it was out there?

Jenna: It was a blast. My friend Taylor Kraft was close behind, I sure did not want to go down again. One puddle is enough. It was a blast, a slippery blast.

Dick: Again, my hats off to you. You fell and still held on to the lead. Did you get the holeshot?

Jenna: I could not tell if I got the holeshot. They started us with the 40+. I was in the mid front.

Dick: How is it you got started racing and how long have you been doing it?

Jenna: My brothers and good friend Taylor race. This is my first year.

Dick: Well it was nice talking with you. Hope I did not cause you to shiver.

Jenna: Nice talking with you. Shiver yes, I've got to go change, Bye.

Dick: Hey wait up. Are you Taylor? Did you just finish racing? I am from Cycle USA and I am doing the race results. Care to talk?

Taylor: Yeah, sure.

Dick: You have my admiration! M.X. Racers are so cool. I hardly ever see one of you ever lose your cool. How was it out there?

Taylor: It was slippery, sort of like a slip-n-slide. I could see my friend Jenna a couple of turns ahead of me. I was trying my best to catch her and hoped I could pass.

Dick: Did I hear you usually finish first?

Taylor: Yes I do, but no matter how I finish, it is always a blast!

Dick: How long have you been racing?

Taylor: This is my second year. I have been watching my brothers race for a long time.

Dick: Thanks. You look like you could use a change of clothes.

Taylor: Thank you. Yes, I have to go change. Goodbye.

These are two young ladies who have my full admiration. They are way cool. Later that day I went looking for the youngsters on the micro minis. They were in the holding area waiting (patiently, I might add). I started to talk with one of the Dads, then asked his son how long he had been racing. His Dad ( who by now I know to be Big Dave and son, Lil Dave) said I might not get much out of him. He's kind of shy.

Dick: I caught a look into his eyes, he has the look of quite determination. Mud or not he's going to go.

(Big) Dave: For sure, he is a real trooper. When we first got here I told him because of the mud, we could go the carnival in North Branch. He would not hear of it . He wanted to race.

Dick: No bragging, just fact. Are you a MXer too?

Dave: No, not me. We do have our own track that Lil Dave rides. My brother, Mark, is a MX Racer. He lives in the cities, we live in Harris. He comes and rides our track and gives Lil Dave rides.

Dick: Lil Dave looks right at home on her. He has the look of dogged determination.

Dave: I have to go, he's just about ready to race. Nice talking to you. Thanks.

Dick: Good talking to you. I will be out there cheering Lil Dave on.

I saw the Double Daves in action, and I do believe that with his dad's quiet encouragement and coaching, we will see young Dave at the Nationals, World Champion Jeremy McGrath style. I feel safe in saying that I was the first to interview three future c hampions.

Three more racers that exemplify what are right in America.
