Living on board Land
(sung to the tune of Allentown by Billy Joel)

Well, I’m living here on board Land
and living here is not very grand
Cause this toilet just won’t clean itself
and these paint fumes
bad for my health

Well this ship won’t really fight in a war
Just fixes subs off the Norfolk Shore
Most of the time, she’s tied up to the pier
So then at night
I get out of here
Don’t like staying here on board Land

But an apartment I cannot afford
And it's getting very hard to stay

We're the crew of the Emory S. Land
And this billet, we can barely stand
All those promises recruiters made
If we worked hard
got past tenth grade

So the graduations hang on the wall
But they never really helped us at all
No they never taught how it would be
Higher rank
and seniority
So we're brooding here on board Land

But they've taken all the life from my soul
And I really want to go away

(Steam Engine solo)

Twice a week
I have duty on board
These watches and duties
have got me real bored
On the weekends
I want to go to a race
Instead I’m here
in this smelly gray place

Well there’s 23 more days ‘till I’m gone
See my sentence is just about done
Then I won't be going back no more

(Boatswain’s whistle solo)

Then I no longer have to stay
No more living here on board Land
